Every child and young person should have the opportunity to participate, learn and develop in environments where they feel included and supported. Achieving this requires looking beyond academic performance and paying attention to participation, relationships, accessibility and the different experiences and needs of learners.
In this special, we explore children, education and inclusion, bringing together stories on autistic young people and digital spaces, student participation, co-creation to prevent violence, wellbeing in schools and efforts to combat loneliness among people with Down syndrome. Together, they highlight different ways of building more inclusive educational and social environments.
