What social impact has the abandonment of X by many educational institutions had? The answer is clear: it has reduced the social impact of education and research. The universities that have abandoned it have seen a decline in the social impact of their research precisely at a time when the public has made it clear that their priority is for knowledge to be disseminated, transferred, and to generate social impact—in other words, improvements.

Those of us who did not comply with the suggestion to abandon X—which was often presented more as an order than a proposal—have faced pressure and discredit. Human Right 27 clearly states that everyone has the right to scientific knowledge; it does not say everyone except those on X. Lies and manipulation are not less prevalent in traditional media than on social media. Harassment is not curbed more effectively in traditional media than on social networks.

Some believed this would make people follow them to other platforms. They do not understand the society they live in, and worse still, they seek to dictate the path that citizens should take. A little analysis using SISM (Social Impact in Social Media) is enough to see that these same universities have significantly reduced their impact on social networks. In the case of many schools, the abandonment has also reduced contact with the segment of families and communities that have remained on the platform.

What will those who left X saying it was because Musk was allied with Trump do now? What will they do now that the two have fallen out? We have yet to hear or read a single intelligent argument in favor of that abandonment. Letting personal or professional decisions be dictated by celebrities or media figures is one of the greatest mistakes one can make in life.
