The victim was on her way back from the courthouse with her mother and father when, despite the presence of two Civil Guard officers, they were unable to prevent the aggressor from killing the victim’s father. In order to eradicate the violence directed by aggressors against those who support their victims, it is essential to name and legislate it, as has already been done in some parliaments and international scientific associations. Its scientifically validated name is “Isolating Gender Violence,” because its goal is to isolate the victim, making them vulnerable and hindering their ability to report it.

Isolating Gender Violence is the main cause why most gender-based violence is neither reported, prevented, nor eradicated. Science has presented multiple evidence that only by eliminating Isolating Gender Violence can we make progress in overcoming gender-based violence.

Every time physical or verbal violence is directed at those who support gender-based violence victims, the situation is being maintained. There are many voluntary and involuntary complicities, with social networks and many media outlets filled with slander against the few individuals and groups who genuinely support victims. These same social media accounts and media outlets, even when they stop slandering, do not publicly correct what they have done, and even maintain their messages and articles. If we truly want to act against gender-based violence and not just say one thing and do another, we must publicly denounce every attack made against those who support the victims.
