Two years ago, Daily27 was born from a simple but ambitious idea: that access to knowledge, culture and scientific evidence should be part of everyone’s right to participate in society. Our name refers to Article 27 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which recognizes everyone’s right to freely participate in the cultural life of the community and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits.
Today, as we celebrate our second anniversary, the challenges facing journalism are greater than ever. In a world marked by growing inequalities, conflicts, polarization and uncertainty, journalism has a fundamental role to play in strengthening democratic societies and contributing to peace. Science and evidence can help us understand complex realities, challenge misinformation and create spaces for informed public debate.
This requires a commitment to rigorous journalism that places evidence at the centre. Media should not become tools for attacking individuals or communities, nor should they contribute to polarization through sensationalism or the pursuit of controversy. Their responsibility is to inform, contextualize and make knowledge accessible, while respecting the dignity of the people and communities they report on.
This is the challenge we embrace at Daily27: to continue bringing scientific evidence and knowledge closer to citizens, creating opportunities for people to engage with diverse issues and develop informed voices of their own. We believe that a more informed society is better equipped to participate in democratic life and to contribute to building more just, peaceful and inclusive communities.
